The establishment of the Thew Academic Scholarship Trust was the wish of Dr. Laurie Thew MNZM and the late Theresa Thew. Laurie was a lifelong member of the APPA and a principal at Manurewa Central School for many years. During his principalship, he completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership with the support of his wife Theresa.

The Thew Academic Scholarship Trust (TAST) is dedicated to supporting and recognising the educational endeavours of principals. The trust offers significant financial contributions to principals pursuing Doctorate or Masters studies, acknowledging their commitment to advancing their knowledge and its relevance to education.
